Superintendent's Message

We have rounded 3rd base and are headed for home plate.  I use this analogy as we near the end of a full school year AND because I love baseball.  For some students, specifically our seniors, it IS their final lap around the bases.  We are gearing-up for 68 graduates to march in person on Sunday, May 30th at 2:00 in our gymnasium.  The senior class is passionate about having graduation “in person” and with their classmates.  We have progressed through the Pandemic-driven school year and are pleased to move forward with graduation, prom, and many other activities we were not able to do last spring.

Also making a final lap around the bases is Mr. Jim Kuhn who will be retiring from teaching 41 years. That’s right, “41”.  This could be a record for years teaching here at Spencerville Local Schools.  Our students speak very highly of Mr. Kuhn and have said “he is still a very effective teacher”.  We wish Mr. Kuhn an incredibly happy retirement!

Mr. Kuhn will be recognized at our upcoming Employee Banquet, which will be held on June 3rd.  We will also recognize our district’s staff for their years of service in 5-year increments, as well as some special awards: Charles (Chuck) Violet Longevity Award, Don McClintock Distinguished Service Award and Mildred Sarka Friend of Education Award.  The special awards will go to recipients who are nominated by staff members.

Along with our spring sports season, we have had a lot of band and music events, some field trips, etc.  Returning to school in person on Mondays with a 2-hour delay has been effective, especially for state testing and all the end of year plans.  I am immensely proud of our students, parents, and staff for all their efforts to make these events a safe and educational experience!

As we plan for the summer months, please continue to use our website for all the up-to-date information.  Our current text Alert system will expire this June.  We will send out information on a new system for you to subscribe to, which is called “Send It”.  Also, over the summer, you may notice several parking lots closed for a period due to crack patching and sealing the asphalt.  We are very proud of our facilities and consistently work to maintain them.

Thanks again for being a great partner with us in the education of your child.  Please contact me if you ever have any questions or concerns.

Go Bearcats!

Cindy Endsley, Superintendent
