Principal's Message

Mrs. Wagner

Susan Wagner
Principal K-4

How are we so close to the end of another year? Time sure does fly when you’re having fun!! On behalf of the staff at Spencerville Elementary, I want to thank our parents for their continued support. Our students are kind, compassionate and come ready to learn each day. We couldn’t have the continued success without your support. Students need to be at school to learn.  According to HB 166, even students with a legitimate excuse are only allowed to miss 65 hours of school. Once 65 hours has been attained, students are considered excessive and a doctor’s note will be required to excuse further absences. Please be sure to communicate with me if your child is having repeated health issues so we can develop a plan and work together to maintain good attendance.

It’s not too late to register for kindergarten for the 2021-22 school year. Screening will take place May 17th and 18th. Contact Tracy Clark at 419-647-4113 for more information.

We are partnering once again with Friends Office for school supplies. For kindergarten-fourth grade students, you can purchase a class kit with most of the necessary supplies your child needs for the school year. The kits will be delivered to school with your child’s name on it.  The kits can be delivered to their classroom, or you can pick it up to take it home. If you would like to order, please see the enclosed flyer for details.

The Elementary would like to wish three of our staff members all the best as they retire their career from Spencerville.

Mrs. Diane Binkley began her career in the fall of 1983 as a middle school math teacher. In 1987, she stayed home for 10 years with her young kids and came back to teaching in fall of 1997. She secured a position in the Title 1 program to help with math at Jennings. She eventually became a reading teacher which she still does today. Diane says, “I love Spencerville schools!  The students are great and the staff is wonderful.  This school has been a huge part of my life and I feel very grateful to have been able to work here.  Go Bearcats!”

Mrs. Beth Ann Kuhn will also be retiring. She has taught her entire career at Spencerville and we wish her all the best!!

Ms. Verna Howell started in 1996 and retired in 2015. She was hired back in 2018 and is now officially leaving at the end of the year. Besides being the recess monitor, she has also subbed as a cook, janitor and van driver. She is certainly someone we rely on to fix our laminator, run copies, organize supplies; the list is endless! Verna says the best part of her job are the hugs and laughs she gets from the students. She enjoys seeing the students grow and change from kindergarten to seniors. She loves being a part of such a big extended family and appreciates how everyone is here for each other. We offer blessings for Verna!!

The elementary staff is working on a plan to make pick-up more secure. Information will be sent home in the August 2023 newsletter.

A shout out to our PTO for all they do for us. It sounds like the donations for Laps for Learning is huge success!! Thank you, families, for all of your support. Our students appreciate the opportunity to take their learning outside of the traditional classroom setting and gain memorable experiences!!
